We are the Palmer family and we hail from Red Wing, MN. Last summer when Ryan, my mountain biking husband, convinced the rest of us to join him on the trails, we realized that it is easy to find information on which trails have the gnarliest features, but harder to find out which ones would best suit a 7 year old, or how close it is the nearest port-a-potty. We also started camping and quickly found that the features advertised online were not necessarily what was most important to our family. (Seriously, just tell me how much firewood is going to cost me!)
So as we learn this information, it is my hope that we can share it with others who will find it helpful. Join as as we explore southeast Minnesota, western Wisconsin, the greater Twin Cities metro and beyond.
Lebanon Hills is one of the most popular trails in the metro area and a top pick for beginner riders. But the short green loop gets repetitive if you are looking for a longer ride, and the blue loop is a bit more technical than other blue trails.
Kinni is my absolute favorite trail to ride. The green loop is accessible to beginners, but the lack of amenities, entrance fee, and length of loop keep it from being a top recommendation for first time riders.
One of our favorite trails, very beginner friendly, located in Woodbury, MN
